Mom Was Right, Cows Are Cool!

Hi, I'm Julie. Meet my mommy Cindy, and my daddy Jon.
People say I am pretty cute, and who am I to argue?

My daddy grew up in the city, and my mommy grew up on a dairy farm. Mommy's dad (my grandpa) doesn't have cows anymore, and mommy thought it was time for me to meet my first cow.

Mommy said, "Let's get a closer look." Daddy wasn't sure, but I trust mommy since she grew up around cows.

The cows at Bremer Farms are really friendly and gentle.

This cow wanted to give me a kiss. Ewww...cow slobber!

This is fun! I smiled at the cows and I'm pretty sure they smiled back at me.
I really liked meeting the cows.  Mommy was right, cows are cool!

Have you ever been to a farm? There is no better way to learn about cows than to visit a farm and meet a farmer.

This And That Thursday -11

A little bit of this and a little bit of that- here's what we've been up to.

Jan, Toby Gerhart, Sara, Michael, John

This past Tuesday was our visit from Minnesota Viking football player Toby Gerhart. You can read about it on my post, It's Toby Day!  Our day was well covered by lots of media including television, radio, magazines and newspapers. I have listed several links here if you would like to learn more about Toby's day at Bremer Farms.

Besides Toby Gerhart, Tuesday also brought my rewards from Redhead Creamery, the on-farm cheese factory that I supported on KickStarter. I'm all about supporting new businesses, and when that new business includes dairy, I'm doubly excited. Thanks for my t-shirt, apron and cutting board, Alise and Lucas, I can't wait to taste the cheese next Spring! You can learn more about Redhead Creamery here.

Guess Who's Coming To Dinner?

Minnesota Viking, Toby Gerhart!

Well, Toby (we are on a first name bases already) is not really coming for dinner, but he is coming for a visit to our farm later this month! How did this happen? Do you remember the Show Your Pride contest we entered? The contest guidelines were to enter a photo that shows our support for Fuel Up To Play 60 and the National Football League. Our prize? A visit from an NFL player! And our family is thrilled to have Toby Gerhart come to visit!

So now we need your help...If you were to meet a National Football League player, what would you ask him?  If you are a farmer, what would you show him on your farm and what part of farming would you take this opportunity to explain? Leave your thoughts in the comments below. Thanks!

And Toby, if you are reading this...in case you decide to stay for dinner...what is your favorite food? I'll set an extra place at the table, just in case!

O Is For Outing

I'm taking you on a journey from A to Z through the land of dairy!
There's no need to pack your bags, just come along!
  O Is For Outing
This story was going to be "V Is For Visit". That's 22 days into June...too long too wait. How about "T is For Tour". Nope, still too far away. I'm like an anxious child on Christmas morning, I just can't wait to share this story about an outing to our farm by our new friends!

This past weekend my family and I played host to blogger Amy and her family from Grinning cheek to cheek. Thanks to Midwest Dairy for suggesting this city gal see what really happens on a family owned dairy farm.

Amy and Joe and their adorable boys, Andrew and Ethan arrived last Saturday afternoon right before another wave of rain hit the farm. In true adventurer style, they donned their blue plastic booties that we provide to our visitors, and the tour began!

One size fits all?
Cow feeding, the milking barn, our calf barn; yes, they saw it all. They experienced the sights, smells and sounds of life on the farm. You can see it all by going to Grinning cheek to cheek.

I love sharing our passion for dairy farming, and I enjoy the enthusiasm our guests show for the life and responsibility we some days may take for granted. I know Grinning cheek to cheek learned something about our dairy farm, but through our guests I'm also reminded of what a blessing we have been given to live the life of a farm family.

I am making a commitment to share as much as I can with you each day this month, about the life of our dairy farm family including what we do, how we share our passion for dairy, and dairy foods we enjoy.

See you here tomorrow...P is for Price.
