W Is For Wrap-Up

I know what you're thinking...It's the last day of June, and Janet is only on letter W! You're right, I fell behind. Have you ever heard the phrase, "stuff happens"? Well, "stuff" has been happening here on Bremer Farms. No, not all bad, just busy. As much as I had every intention to blog each day of June, sometimes life gets in the way. So please excuse the couple of missed days, and let me wrap-up our A-Z journey through June Dairy Month. (Thanks!)

I have shared this video before, but I like to share it occasionally since not everyone has been following my story since I began my blog four years ago. (I know, weird right? Not everyone was here from the beginning. But hey, you're here now, and that's what matters).

I made this video of our farm two years ago. The pictures may not be new, but the information is still current. I was asked by Phil Lempert of the Lempert Report to make this video. I hope you'll take time to watch it, and add a thought or question in the comments below, if you'd like.

I'll see you tomorrow as I continue to finish the alphabet. And if "stuff" stops happening, maybe I can update this video. Michael...I need you, pleeease.

Earth Day Is Every Day On The Farm

Happy Earth Day!

My family and I live by the motto, “Leave this world a little better than you found it”. We became farmers because of our love for our land and animals. What better way to show this love than to respect our natural resources?

We pride ourselves on making the best decisions we can to preserve our land to keep it beautiful, productive and sustainable.

I invite you to read an article I wrote for The Food Journal and Food, Nutrition & Science to learn more about what we do on Bremer Farms to make everyday Earth Day.

What are you doing to celebrate Earth Day?

It's a Three-Pete

This week I was invited to do a third submission for

Food, Nutrition & Science is a newsletter prepared by Phil Lempert, Supermarket Guru, and his team. Each newsletter shares the latest news in food science, agriculture, health and wellness and sustainability efforts.

In the past I had been asked to make a video of our farm for readers to get a virtual tour of a dairy farm.
You can read about it here and also watch it here.

Another time I was asked to answer questions for a
Q and A about being a dairy farmer.

This month I was invited to choose my own topic for a feature called "From the Farmer's Tractor." I chose Sustainability, and what we at Bremer Farms do to take what we need to live now, without jeopardizing the potential for people in the future to meet their needs. You can read my guest column From The Farmer's Tractor here.

So it's a three-pete! Three times I have been invited by the Lempert Report to share what Bremer Farms is all about, and I will gladly accept a fourth, fifth, even one hundred invitations. I want everyone to know what we do "down on the farm" and the passion we have for the life we have chosen!

While you're visiting Food, Nutrition & Science read about my friend and fellow DairyMom Karen Bohnert.

More About July

As promised, I have a few more July highlights I want to share...

I was recently asked by

to participate in a question and answer series for Food Nutrition & Science from the Lempert Report. Each month the Lempert Report features a different farmer and asks a set of questions. They then feature the farmers responses in their monthly newsletter. My answers appeared in the July 30th newsletter. You can read my entire questions and answers here.

You can learn more about the Supermarket Guru here.

You may also watch the Bremer Farms video.
I created this video for Phil Lempert, Supermarket Guru,
as part of the From The Farm series on the Lempert website.

I appreciate that Phil Lempert and The Lempert Report has given me, and other farmers, the opportunity to connect with consumers!

Also in July...

Look who I found selling root beer floats at one of our local banks?

It's Dakota County Dairy Princess and Princess Kay of the Milky Way candidate, Gabriella Sorg. You first met her at P Is For Princess.

Gabriella was selling root beer floats to raise money and awareness for

Your donation will deliver milk to needy families in your community.

Gabriella also took this opportunity to share dairy recipes and information. You can find these yummy dairy recipes at Dairy Makes Sense.

Princess Kay of the Milky Way will be crowned on August 20th, the night before the start of the Minnesota State Fair.

Good luck Gabriella!

V Is For Video

It's June dairy Month! The barn doors are open,
so join me on my daily A to Z journey
to learn more about dairy.

  V Is For Video
"Hi Janet!
Congrats on your nomination for the 2014 Social Media Farmer of the Year award. My name is Allison B. and for the past seven years I have interviewed farmers in our Q&A series for Food Nutrition & Science from the Lempert Report. We also do a video series that shows our readers a day in the life of a farmer."

What's this? I believe I owe my readers an explanation. This spring I was notified by Midwest Dairy that they were nominating me for Social Media Farmer of the Year.  This is a nation-wide, first annual recognition of farmers and ranchers who promote their industry using social media in an effective way. I just received an email last week letting me know that I was not the winner (insert sad face here) and that the winner would be announced in August. If I were a highly paid Hollywood actor, this would be the time to smile politely and say, "It was an honor just to be nominated." I may not be a movie star, but I do agree with the sentiment, it really is an honor to even be mentioned.

Back to V Is For Video...
Since telling my dairy farming story is the goal of my blog, I jumped at the opportunity to share a video with the Lempert Report. But who is Phil Lempert?

"Known as The Supermarket Guru ® , Lempert is a distinguished author and speaker who alerts customers and business leaders to impending corporate and consumer trends, and empowers them to make educated purchasing and marketing decisions. For twenty plus years Phil has served as food trends editor and correspondent for NBC News’ Today show, reporting on consumer trends, food safety and money-saving tips, as well as showcasing new products, as well as regular appearances on ABC’s The View , The Oprah Winfrey Show, 20/20, CNN, CNBC, FOX , as well as on local television morning and news programs throughout the country."

And now I am proud to present "Bremer Farms" a video
 produced by my son Michael.

You can also view the video by visiting these sites...

My Farmer spotlight "Q and A" will be in an upcoming Food, Nutrition & Science posting. I'll let you know when that happens.

Until then, please share my video of Bremer farms. I want everyone to see how much we dairy farmers care about that glass of cold milk you enjoy!
